Ethylene glycol is the simplest representative of polyols, obtained by hydration of ethylene oxide. Is a clear, colourless liquid, slightly oily texture, is odorless and has slightly sweet taste. An important property of ethylene glycol is the ability to lower the freezing point of water, so the substance was widely used in the production of niskasaari and coolants (automotive antifreeze, toolow, brake fluid). Ethylene glycol is also used in the manufacture of hydraulic fluids, synthetic fibers, resins, solvents and for other purposes.
