    Formic acid

    Formic acid is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. Formic acid is miscible in all proportions with water, diethyl ether, ethanol, not soluble in aliphatic hydrocarbons and moderately soluble in benzene, toluene. Formic acid is strongest of all carboxylic acids. In contact with skin causes burns. In nature, formic acid is detected in the needles, nettles, fruits, acrid secretions of bees and ants. Formic acid is used as a mordant dyeing and finishing textiles and paper, the treatment of the skin; as a preservative in the ensiling of green mass and fruit juices, as well as for disinfection of barrels for beer and wine.
